London VI

A few weeks back, our cousins were in London for the weekend, so Matt and I decided to take the train down and check out some new neighbourhoods before meeting up with them for dinner.

We started with lunch in Shoreditch in a shopping area made from a bunch of shipping containers. After cooling down with some ice cream, we wandered the neighbourhood and admired some of the street art and quirky shops. We only spent a couple of hours here, so we would love to come back – it seems like a really fun area of the city and we only got to scratch the surface.

Next we hopped on the tube to Camden for a drink. It was a beautiful, warm, Saturday afternoon and the streets of Camden were packed with people. We were glad to escape to a local brew pub to cool off and get out of the crowds.

Finally we met up with our cousins Seth and Stephanie in Kensington and found a nearby restaurant for dinner. They had just finished a trip to Ireland and were spending a few days in London before heading back to the States. It was great to catch up and hear about their trip – we had so much fun and are always thrilled when we get to see our friends and family!

This is the place we grabbed lunch, made out of shipping containers. The ground level was mostly retail shops and the upper level was street food stalls.

Lots of people were outside enjoying the beautiful afternoon

It was one of the warmest days we’ve had all summer, so we stopped by a Ben & Jerry’s tent for some much needed ice cream and cookies after lunch!

Shoreditch is full of street art – this is just one example, but it was all over, and really cool to see. We will definitely have to come back and check it out again when we have more time!

A number of the shops in Camden have these really massive sculptures on the front of the building. This was for a restaurant, but we also saw an airplane and several giant shoes
